May Day is an old, history filled tradition across Europe, and in fact the world. It in part originates from the protests and demands to bring in the 8-hour day (40-hour week). Before the 8-hour week became law, such as the 1800s, many labourers would work in excess of 16hours a day, 6 times a week – that’s a whopping 96hours a week. So during a congress back in 1904, trade unions across many counties agreed to stop labour work on 1st May where possible. Today ‘May Day’ is more commonly known as ‘International Workers Day’.
Nowadays, the majority of British labourers and office workers are given the day off as the traditional spring bank holiday, observed this year on May 4 th. With the spirit of acknowledging labourers hard work and with May Day in mind, we’ve decided to give 10% off our three Tuffboxes, offering a saving of up to £22.80 on our largest, Tuffbox Monster.
